Happy Halloween!

This year for Halloween the boys were Sock Monkeys because, well, for their birthday we got sock monkey hoodies, red socks, and brown pants so it sort of seemed like a sign…that three different people gave us three different bits of clothing that happen to come together to create one, very free, Halloween costume. So there you have it. Sock Monkeys.

And the boys were pretty excited about their first Halloween.

For those of you who can do quick calculations you probably picked up on the fact that they were born thirteen months ago which makes this…their first Halloween. Don’t stress out over the details. Just know that I’ve chosen to look at last year as a red-shirt year. They were like little, blobby, freshman babies who didn’t even get to see the field on October 31st. So even though we dressed them up, took lots of orange and black pictures, and taunted them with candy they couldn’t chew it wasn’t Halloween. It was just practice for this year – Their very first Halloween evah!

Proof that last year was just practice.

So anyway, we dressed the boys up and got some of the standard oh my god my family is so perfect and my kids are always smiling pictures.

This is not a smile it’s a scream. Don’t be fooled by the lack of sound you hear billowing from your speakers as you look at it. The noise was quite loud.

Then we went people watching on a street that takes this evening very seriously.  Thousands of people joined us in what was, with the exception of several hundred scantly dressed hooker ladies, quite a family friendly evening.

The boys were so excited they could barely contain themselves…

…as we posed in the street for another family photo…

…which was crashed by what I can only describe as the most perfectly placed oops I walked into your photo because I wasn’t paying attention woman ever. Kids, meet your new mommy.

After our botched family photo we wandered around, looked at the haunted houses, taught our children how to drink from their bottles with socks on their hands…

…and stopped at a pirate ship that had landed in someones front yard.  Aaargh!

After a fun night walking the streets looking at the haunted houses and crazy costumes we decided to head home.

All in all, we had a great Halloween!

  1. So cute!!! Also, love the photo bomb hahaha

  2. Looks like a fun evening and the costumes for J&L were perfect. Another great post. We look forward to reading your adventures as a family.

  3. Hysterical! laughed ’til I cried.

  4. J&L were cute as…well….little monkeys. The “picture book” story was great – a real Halloween treat that was better than candy. Always look forward to the next story w/pics.
What a difference a year makes in how the boys have grown!!!
